Getting Healthy Before You Get Pregnant Leads to a Healthier Pregnancy and Baby

I have found many teenage girls being choosy and sulky over food and I include myself in this category. But once they start learning how to cook, the mother’s wacky old recipe tastes interesting if the young lady cooks it herself. Some women start eating all the veggies and fruits which they once hated as soon as they get pregnant. This gives rise to an interesting fact that if young ladies can cook their own food in a healthy way and start consuming it, they can be in a healthy state even before they get pregnant. I don’t know how far the idea holds true but being healthy by the time you get pregnant is very essential to have a baby as per experts in the healthcare domain.

It is just not that consuming healthy food is sufficient to conceive but you need to follow a series of steps to get healthy before you give birth to a healthy baby as it is evident that 1 in every 33 babies born in the USA have some sort of birth defect which can be fatal at times in the first year of the child birth. As it is apparent that healthy mothers have healthy babies, the women have lesser chances of having miscellaneous issues in their pregnancy such as miscarriages, premature labor, GD (Gestational Diabetes). The babies also are not vulnerable to premature birth, still birth or low birth weight.

PCH (Pre-conception health): Let us first understand about the pre-conception health as by the virtue of nature, womenhood is deployed with patience and they are ready to transform themselves for the new role with all the necessary sacrifices. PCH emphasizes on screening for diseases before pregnancy and encourages medical care for women in their child bearing age of 18 to 44 years. This feat improves their health and caters to the elements that might influence their pregnancies in future.

· Increase folic acid in diet: Studies revealed that women need to take B vitamin throughout the pregnancy and at least once a month before pregnancy as this vitamin helps preventing massive birth defects related to the spine and brain of the babies. Dark green leafy veggies are external sources of folic acid. Fortified whole grains and cereals and citrus fruits are also good sources to this prenatal vitamin.

· Balance your BMI: Obese women tend to have an increased risk for pregnancy complications such as type 2 Diabetes, heart problems and few types of cancers. Similarly, underweight people are also prone to serious issues in pregnancy. It is important to maintain the BMI (body mass index) before you are planning for a pregnancy. Regular exercising and consuming healthy food can get your BMI in place.

· Quit alcohol, smoking and drugs: Alcohol, smoke and drug abuse may turn your pregnancy disastrous. It is recommended to quit these habits much before conception as they apparently cause birth defects in the child and often cause intra uterine deaths as well. Seek assistance to quit these habits to have a healthy baby.

· Oral health is important too: People may wonder to know the relation between pregnancy and oral health. However, your oral health condition speaks volumes about your overall health as the inconsistency in your hormones in pregnancy causes bleeding and swelling gums. So, it is important to keep monitoring the oral health before and during pregnancy.

This caring is supposed to continue even after the delivery as you need to feed the baby and staying healthy is the key to having healthy and ample breast milk. As maintaining healthy habits stretches for a long time from pre-pregnancy to post-delivery, staying healthy should become a habit for life time. It is just not important to stay healthy for your baby but it is essential to stay healthier for yourself!!

Food Time Table For Two-Year Old Baby

Two years is an important milestone when it comes to you little one’s eating habits and the food they consume. At the age of two years, your baby needs a lot of nutrients in his body and milk is not enough to cater to the needs of their growing bodies. So, while it is important to always feed them healthy baby food, baby food for 2 years old is an especially critical topic. In fact, at this age, your child outgrows food and should be eating three major meals a day along with one or two snacks.

They can eat everything that you are eating, but obviously their food shouldn’t be as spicy, if at all. It is important to prepare food for 2 years old and follow a set time table for your toddler. To help ease the process of putting one together, you can refer to the following pointers for a 2 years baby food time table. But remember to also follow your baby’s cues and adapt their good according to their tastes and preferences.

Perfect food for 2 years old early in the morning:

2 tsp of seasonal healthy vegetable with 1 roti or ½ cup rice and ½ cup dal

½ cup baked vegetables like carrots, beans, and/or potato

The food items listed above are all healthy food options for two-year-olds that are also easily digested. However, these are only a few examples of baby food for 2 years old and you can always experiment with what your child likes. So, mix and match these options to create your own 2 years baby food time table.

Parents should also keep the following pointers in mind while putting together the 2 years baby food time table:

2. Avoid offering sugary and aerated drinks and fast foods

Baby Boomers – 4 Elements of a Healthy Lifestyle

For anyone born during the post-World War II Era, up until the Vietnam Era, you have been automatically labeled a Baby Boomer. This generation had proven to be the largest in quite some time, and as they get older, more of a focus has been placed on becoming much healthier.

The Baby Boomers have seen the toll that hard work, lack of proper sleep, and poor nutrition have had on both their parents’ and grandparents’ generations, and this has been motivation to make a difference in overall lifestyle choices.

First and foremost, everything we do to our bodies has some kind of impact, whether it is positive or negative. But what we eat can sometimes help us to improve our quality of life, and make it possible to add several years to our lives. Good nutrition is significant, because it can release antioxidants for heart health, or help us to feel more energized so we engage in more activity throughout the day.

As long as we are practicing good nutrition, the next step would be to exercise. Whether you go to the gym every day of the week, or simply walk a mile a couple of days a week, physical activity has proven its benefits, especially to people over the age of forty. Getting the body moving increases blood flow for heart health, releases endorphins for mental health, and allows the body to sweat, releasing toxins that are extremely bad for the skin and other organs.

Another element that the Baby Boomers should consider is the impact of cigarettes and alcohol on personal health. This generation grew up in an era where nothing much was thought about smoking several cigarettes a day, and imbibing alcohol was a regular occurrence in many homes. It seems like such obvious advice, but giving up smoking, and limiting the amount of alcohol you consume can really add years to your life. But really, the way you feel will improve one hundred percent.

The last element of a healthy lifestyle for Baby Boomers would be a good night’s sleep. So often, working adults feel that they can get through the day on only a few hours, and be fine. Yet, what they do not realize is that, even though they may be able to function at the office that does not mean that this behavior is healthy.

Looking and feeling great involves taking care of your body, and taking the time to relax and fall asleep in a timely fashion often falls to the wayside. But many people of this generation are beginning to realize the need for sleep, and taking steps to ensure they fall asleep quickly at a decent hour, to wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the day.

Unlike with exercise, nutrition and quitting smoking and drinking, you do not have to do much to practice this method of health. All it takes is lying on the bed, and drifting off into a deep slumber, and years will be added to your life.

By combining all of these positive behaviors, the Baby Boomer generation will demonstrate that they will far outlive the average age of their parents and grandparents. All it takes is four positive steps.
